During out trip to London, we decided to have dinner at Shrimpy’s that architects Carmody Groarke have transformed from an abandoned petrol station (hence the name filling station coming from) into a contemporary restaurant with fluted walls.
It’s near the ‘once shady’ King’s Cross, a walking distance from the Eurostar train station. Being near the canal makes it a good candidate to spend some time and have some margaritas on sunny days -I know, you don’t get many of these in London.
Translucent fiberglass walls are illuminated from the base in the evening. They provide the separation and protection from the busy road during the day and increase visibility in the evening.
Once past exterior fiberglass walls, warm light and large window bays invites you inside.
Interior is designed to be very casual and convivial. It’s is half industrial, due to exposed metallic beams and lack of ‘finishing touches’; half diner, due to the american bar and stools.
You have basically two options for seating: table by the window or at the bar, close to the open kitchen. We went for the bar as we enjoy the social environment it provides.
It was fun being able to sneak peak at the kitchen and check other dishes and how they are being served.
